Drylining Lincoln FAQ

What materials are used for dry lining?

Short answer: The main material used for dry lining is plasterboard, which consists of a gypsum core covered with durable paper. Standard plasterboard is suitable for many bedrooms, living rooms and offices. Moisture-resistant boards are commonly used in kitchens, bathrooms and utility areas, while fire-resistant boards provide additional protection in garages, stairways and other regulated locations. Acoustic plasterboard can help reduce sound transmission, and insulated plasterboard improves thermal performance. Boards may be fixed directly to masonry using drywall adhesive or attached to timber battens or lightweight metal studs with screws. Other materials include jointing tape, joint filler, finishing compound, corner beads and fixings. Depending on the project, insulation slabs, vapour control layers, membranes, sealants and acoustic materials may also be installed behind the plasterboard.
