Drylining Lincoln FAQ
Does dry lining reduce room size?
Short answer: Dry lining does reduce room size slightly because plasterboard and its supporting system are added to the inside of the existing walls. The amount of space lost depends on the installation method. Dot and dab dry lining usually adds around 20 to 40 mm to each wall, while timber or metal framed systems may add 75 mm, 100 mm or more. Insulation, acoustic materials and double layers of plasterboard can increase the depth further. In most rooms, the reduction is modest and may be outweighed by the benefits of smoother walls, improved insulation or better sound control. However, space loss can be more noticeable in narrow rooms, hallways or small box bedrooms. Measuring the proposed wall build-up beforehand will help you understand the impact.
