Drylining Lincoln FAQ

Can dry lining hide uneven or damaged walls?

Short answer: Dry lining is an effective way to hide uneven, cracked or unattractive walls. Plasterboard creates a new flat surface without requiring every imperfection in the original wall to be repaired. For mildly uneven masonry, boards can be fixed with adhesive, with the amount adjusted to help align the surface. For badly damaged or irregular walls, a timber batten or metal frame can create a straight structure before the plasterboard is installed. This method can also conceal cables, pipes and insulation. However, dry lining should not be used to cover serious structural movement, active damp or unstable masonry. These problems need to be investigated and repaired first. Once the underlying wall is sound and dry, dry lining can provide a clean, smooth finish that is ready for painting or wallpapering.
