Drylining Lincoln FAQ

Can dry lining be installed over brick walls?

Short answer: Dry lining can be installed directly over brick walls, provided the masonry is stable, reasonably dry and free from serious defects. On fairly even brickwork, plasterboard can be attached using drywall adhesive in a method commonly known as dot and dab. Where walls are very uneven, damp or need additional insulation, a timber batten or metal frame system may be more suitable. Insulation can then be fitted behind the boards before they are fixed in place. Any active damp, loose bricks, damaged pointing or water penetration should be repaired before installation. Electrical cables and pipework can also be concealed behind the dry lining, but they must be installed safely. A professional inspection helps determine the most suitable fixing method and avoids trapping moisture behind the finished wall.
